Right next to the IJ river you can find a gorgeously green sustainable oasis named: Hotel Jakarta. It's a place for those who want to enter a hotel that will give you certain 'wow - feeling'. With its phenomenal architecture, subtropical garden and wooden details, it's a place where two worlds collide: as if you entered a part of Asia in the midst of Amsterdam. We have visited this beautiful place at the beginning of June. It was a bit of a gloomy day, where the sun was shining through the clouds at some moments. It was not too hot, not too cold and all we remembered was: Hotel Jakarta gave us a feeling of a mini holiday filled with sweet peaceful days.

Beautiful Stays in Amsterdam

Beautiful stays in Amsterdam is a project where we broadcast beautiful hotels with either a unique design, concept, or a distinctive interior, to help you find a perfect place to stay whenever you are visiting Amsterdam. It doesn't matter whether this might be your first time visiting, or that you're a Dutchie exploring hotels in Amsterdam. We display these hotels all for you and sum up reasons why they be a good fit to your preferences. And this week we'll share our experiences at Hotel Jakarta and after this you may find yourself booking a room!

The Concept

Hotel Jakarta is the third hotel we have brought a visit to in Amsterdam. It's a very well known hotspot in Amsterdam and is definitely the greenest hotel we have seen so far in Amsterdam, perhaps also throughout the whole Netherlands. However, why is this one of The Beautiful Stays in Amsterdam? Our number one reason would be its amazing industrial interior that meets accents of modern Asia. There can be several Indonesian art works found from the national collection of the Tropenmuseum. As art and history lovers we admired the collection truly. Also, the amount of plants inside of the hotel was absolutely wonderful. There as massive and smaller plants throughout the whole middle section of the hotel. Also, the hotel is intercepting raindrops to water their giant plants, regulate solar energy and they are providing sustainable uniforms to their staff. These are a few measures they apply inside their sustainable built hotel.

The Rooms

Hotel Jakarta has bio boutique styled rooms and has 14 junior suites, 5 suites and 1 wow suite. We were staying in the waterfront superior room with a balcony, a shower and a bath in our room. The photos below give you a bit of an impression of our stay. Comfy baths, soft pillows, bed that pulls you right in to it in a good way. We loved how they worked with the division of the room. There is a giant door that gives you the choice of a closed or open bathroom space. Also, the view of our room was so lovely: A true city view next to the IJ river. The prices of the rooms start at: € 256 for two persons.

It's a place for those who want to enter a hotel that will give you certain 'wow - feeling'.

The Food

Indonesian cuisine at its finest, that's what you will experience in Hotel Jakarta. We went for their rice table for two. How I love it when you have a dish that offers multiple small things at once, where you can try all of it just at the right amount. Our dinner was really nice, everything was perfectly marinated and so tasty! Joe is normally not a fan of dishes with coconut, however he loved their chicken and vegetables in coconut sauce. After our dinner we spoiled ourselves and ordered ice cream in our rooms. Their ice creams, well you have to try it yourselves and than you will know why we loved it so much! Especially their coconut flavour. We also loved the amount they pour to you!

Let's not forget about lunch. I tried their chicken soto ayam. All i can say is: The herbs... I can highly recommend ordering a soto ayam for either lunch or dinner. You won't regret this! Did you know about their home made 'ice tea Jakarta' concept? It's one of the greatest things about their menu. You will get two small glasses with syrups. One with a lemon taste and the other with rose syrup. It's a tea based on organic African rooibos. You can either go for a more sour or sweet taste for your drink. As a true ice tea and lemonade lover I ordered at least three of them during our entire stay!

They also have a nice bakery: Bakery Westers, where they have a great Espressobar and serve lovely cakes and pies. This is located on the first floor of hotel Jakarta.

The Services

When we are visitting the hotels that are participating in the project: Beautiful Stays in Amsterdam, of course we will let you know what you can expect from the service of Hotel Jakarta. So here's what you can expect: If you are arriving on a Friday or Saturday you will be welcomed with a glass of delicious Prosecco. How thoughtful is that?

We had a very nice and kind welcome. As soon as we arrived they explained everything we needed to know about the hotel. On the days we had visit Hotel Jakarta there was also an event going on. Even though, it was very busy their staff didn't look stressed at all. That's a huge plus and it shows that they have true hospitality stars in their team!

If you're staying in Amsterdam on a rainy day or you're searching for refreshing when it's really hot outside and you're not sure what to do? No worries! spoil yourself with a spa day and/or a treatment. They offer many types of massages and skin treatments in their wellness area. Perhaps, if you have time left hop in the sauna or steaming cabin. Imagine: Going for a long city walk and after that you can enjoy a swim at the pool to give your body and feet the complete rest they need.

Additional facilities:

  • Fitness

  • Wellness

  • Private parking is possible, however a reservation is not possible - Costs: 35 EUR per day

The Location

If you're staying at Hotel Jakarta the city centre is just a few minutes away. Approximately 8 minutes by public transport or you can have a nice walk of 20 minutes. We would recommend the walk if you're not in a hurry and if the weather is nice of course.
