Staying in Marrakech: Riad Palais Calipau

Updated: Nov 12, 2022

|| Staying at one of the most beautiful riads in Marrakech: Riad Palais Calipau ||

Behind one of the many big brown doors in Marrakech, lies the entrance of a beautiful Riad named: Riad Palais Calipau. Right in the heart of the Cashbah of Marrakech.

As you enter a fragrance of woody oriental spices turns a smile on your face. The magnificent large plants, rotan and wooden details, combined with leather couches, poofs and chairs can be found in every corner. And, when you're done admiring the first impressions, you can get to the stairs and enjoy the marvellous view of their rooftop terrace.

A Riad that awakens all your senses and here's why!

Are you planning a trip to Morocco, Marrakech and you're not sure where to stay yet? We are here to help by sharing our experience in a Riad (which wasn't sponsored) to give an honest review of our experience in the Riad Palais Calipau in Marrakech.

The Riad

We just came from back from Agafay Desert, a 44 minute drive away from our next destination: Riad Palais Calipau in Marrakech. To be honest we were so excited to see the riad, because we saw the photos on Booking.com and we were immediately sold by how beautiful it looked.

The moment our taxi arrived, one of the employees of Riad Palais Calipau were waiting for us to pick up our luggage and walk with us to enter into our new stay. As the massive brown firm wooden doors opened we both said: 'WOW!' Everything looked exactly like the photos.

Our eyes got amazed by how many beautiful big plants there were and the incredible smell of the Orange Blossom By Natus gave us the smell of summer. They welcomed us with Fresh Moroccan Mint tea and a sweet small snack, sat down with us and explained everything about the riad and the neighbourhood we were in. We talked for at least 20 minutes with each other and the service was so hospitable, all our questions got answered and we got a lot of restaurant recommendations!

What can you expect?

  • Excellent service

  • A warm welcome

  • A riad that smells magnificent every single day

  • Plant heaven for green lovers

  • A great breakfast

  • A pool covered by sunshine

The Rooms

When we finished our check in we got accompanied to our room for the next 3 days. We stayed on the ground floor and this was by far bigger than we imagined it would be. We loved the colors of the room as it had green beautiful tiles and yellow pillows, nude colors with uniquely local details such as lanterns, poofs and rugs. I can describe as much about the room with words, but a video speaks louder than 1000 of my words.

The Riad has several room types and it's up to you which one has your preference to book before hand. All the rooms give so much privacy, but also a home cozy feeling at the same time. We stayed in the Tangier Room (above). Each room has its own unique design, which makes it even harder to choose in our opinion to pick one as they all have something precious. Prices are usually between €82 to €148 a night. A plus of staying on the ground floor is that the pool is right at your doorstep! However, if you are staying at the balcony level you have a great overlooking view of the pool.

The Food

Breakfast

Breakfast is served on their rooftop terrace overlooking the beautiful Marrakech. We loved the fact that the whole Riad has white walls, except for the rooftop. It screams Marrakech, with the pink fences and stones.

They serve breakfast per table and they take their time to deliver it exquisitely good for you. For those who have a sweet-tooth it's perfect! You get fresh fruits, little glasses with several jam, yoghurt and delicious orange juice!! We loved that we got different types of homemade breads and cakes too! However, the coffee was (for me) not that strong unfortunately. As I prefer a strong coffee, but for those who love Latte macchiato's it's really nice.

The Pool

When we arrived at Riad Palais Calipau we wanted to jump in to the pool right away! The sun is shines on top of the pool for almost the whole day. We wanted to explore Marrakech and see everything, but on the other hand we felt a bit sad to leave the Riad. We planned an afternoon of relaxing at the pool and it was truly calming. This was mainly because of the music, but also the fragrance of the Riad and the serene atmosphere. Order some mint tea, get in and out of the pool and you are having a great time in Marrakech already. Sometimes it's good to unwind and just enjoy being there without rushing through the streets to see everything.

The Service

The service is one of the key points that can either make or break your stay, right? Therefore, we appreciated the extra time we got when we checked in to our room. They were super helpful! Also, did you know that when we arrived and we saw another room that included a bath, they gave us the possibility to take a look at it and make a decision between the two rooms?

I have another great story, we told them that we needed to travel to Fez after our stay in Marrakech. They told us about the possibilities we had of travelling by train or taxi. We chose to travel by train for only 20 EURO (for 2 persons). If we would choose the taxi, it would have cost us 200 EURO, because of the far distance. However, they offered us the following: They would go to the train-station of Marrakech and they would get our tickets for us before hand and deliver it to us in the Riad. They arranged a taxi for us to bring us at 4:45 AM to our train, which would leave at 5:30 AM. Everything went so smooth, because of their arrangement. We were super thankful for that possibility.

The Location

Do we recommend the place when it comes to the location? Definitely a big YES! If you're looking for a good located Riad, this is the one and if you want to have some gorgeous pictures from a Riad and its surrounded area, this one got you covered!
